Neymar’s dad has played down speculation linking his son with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer – instead revealing that he is working on renewing the Brazilian star’s contract with the French club.
Neymar Sr, who acts as his son’s manager, made the revelation in an interview with Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte.
When asked about his son being linked with moves to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona , Neymar Sr said: “People say: ‘Wow, Neymar is always being linked with a big club in every transfer window.’
“This means that he has good career management. He is always among the names (being linked). If it’s an important signing, Neymar is involved. Thank God! But this doesn’t mean he’s going to that club or another.
“His name has been speculated on since he was 17, since he made his professional debut. Neymar has only had two transfers in his life, but we’ve had speculation for 10 years.
“The probability of him not leaving is very high. He is in the second year of his contract. So, he has three more years until the end of that contract, and we are now starting on a renewal with Paris Saint-Germain.”
Neymar Sr also remembered how, when his son was a youngster, they visited Madrid for an assessment with Real.
He said: “We had been there for several days and in Spain they don’t have rice and beans. I said: ‘Man, this is difficult.’“And we didn’t manage to eat many of the things they had there. The food in the hotel was always the same things: cured ham.
“Now we are used to that, but at the time we really missed rice and beans. Neymar seemed to be getting weaker, the guy wasn’t eating.”
