Nigerian Southampton rising star Oludare Olufunwa has opened up in an interview about his best position on the pitch and his hopes to play for the Super Eagles.
Olufunwa kickstarted his career as a central defender but eventually converted into a right fullback by The Saints youth coaching staff who felt it was a position where he showed true potential.
It has been said it various reports that the youngster has made a commendable impact in his new position as fullback such as that he was awarded a full debut for the U23s in their recent game against Stoke City.
In an interview with All Nigeria Soccer, Olufunwa said that the position change came from the coach and that he feels that he can only improve as a player as he is still young in the game.
”I think the change came from the coach I had at the time,” he said.
”They saw I had the ability to play also at right back and so for the team this was the best position for me to play at the time.
”I’ve played centre back for the large part of my life and probably feel I play best there but I’m still young and learning the game overall.”
Despite being of Nigerian descent and eligible to play for England, Olufunwa said that he would be open to playing for the national team, Super Eagles if he is given the invitation by the Nigerian Football Federation.
